German-Baltic Cultural Foundation
German-Baltic Cultural Foundation
The German-Baltic Cultural Foundation (DKS) is a foundation under civil law based in Lüneburg. The purpose of the foundation is to promote, preserve and research German-Baltic culture and tradition, as well as to promote international understanding with the Baltic states.
To achieve its goals, the foundation maintains an extensive archival collection and what is probably the largest library of German-Baltic literature (fiction and non-fiction) in Germany; it promotes scholarship and research on German-Baltic history through seminars, lectures, exhibitions and the publication of scholarly and journalistic works.
The DKS owns all the archival materials and collection objects gathered by the Kulturwerk; it also owns the Brömsehaus and two other properties, which have been handed over to the East Prussian State Museum with its German-Baltic department for use.
The DKS represents all German Balts in museum matters. It has a seat and a vote on the board of trustees of the East Prussian Cultural Foundation (OKS). In addition, one of the deputy chairpersons of the OKS is elected on the recommendation of the person appointed to the board of trustees by the DKS.
