German-Baltic Cultural Association

Preserving history. Connecting culture. Shaping the future.

Since the end of the Second World War, Lüneburg has been a central location for German-Baltic remembrance culture. The German-Baltic Cultural Association, based in Lüneburg's Brömsehaus and consisting of the Carl-Schirren Society, the German-Baltic Cultural Foundation and the German-Baltic Future Foundation, has set itself the goal of collecting, preserving and communicating the cultural heritage of the German Balts and promoting research into it.

At the same time, the Association promotes lively dialogue with the Baltic region and is involved in forward-looking projects in education, youth, politics and society.

Collections of the Association

One of the main focuses of the German-Baltic Cultural Foundation is the collection and preservation of German-Baltic cultural heritage through the German-Baltic Cultural Foundation. To this end, it maintains an archive, a scientific library and a small museum in the Brömsehaus.

Since the early 1950s, the German-Baltic Cultural Association has been collecting not only archival materials and books, but also ‘tangible cultural artifacts,’ thereby not only preserving valuable objects from loss, but also making them accessible to the public through cataloguing and presentation.

Offers & Services

Another focus of the German-Baltic Cultural Association is the research and dissemination of German-Baltic cultural heritage through academic publications, the organisation of seminars and the active collection of tangible cultural artifacts.
