German-Baltic history – German-Baltic life – German-Baltic culture
The Carl-Schirren Library contains over 15,000 books. The extensive collection focuses on academic literature (10,000 items) on German-Baltic history, German-Baltic life, cultural conditions and regional descriptions. Particular emphasis is placed on the significance of the Germans since they settled in the country and their historical impact on relations with the Estonians and Latvians.
The library also contains a section of unique fiction (4,000 items) by German-Baltic writers. The collection is supplemented by writings by German-Baltic authors on non-Baltic topics (3,000 items).
Borrowing books
All the holdings of the Carl-Schirren Library have been loaned to the Library of the Nord-Ost-Institut at the University of Hamburg for use.
