Tangible cultural artifacts

The German-Baltic Cultural Association collects...

... German-Baltic cultural artefacts and preserves them with great care. The artefacts are used to research and communicate German-Baltic heritage in order to preserve history and culture. By arrangement, the artefacts are also exhibited, for example in the German-Baltic section of the East Prussian Museum in Lüneburg.

Why is the collection of cultural assets
important?

01

Preservation of cultural heritage

Cultural assets – such as works of art, historical documents, buildings and everyday objects – tell us who we are as a society and where we come from. They document the cultural diversity, history, traditions and identities of different groups.

02

Transfer of knowledge

Cultural assets are sources of knowledge. They enable us to understand past ways of life, ways of thinking, technologies and world views. They are indispensable, especially for education and research.

03

Promotion of social cohesion

Our shared cultural heritage creates a collective identity. It fosters a sense of community, conveys values and helps to bridge social differences.

04

Protection of cultural diversity

In a globalised world, there is a tendency towards standardisation. Preserving cultural assets helps to maintain cultural diversity and raise the profile of minority cultures.
